Construction Dust Control Solutions That Work

Construction sites face the challenge of limiting workers’ exposure to harmful dust created by daily operations like heavy vehicle traffic, site preparation, demolitions and cutting concrete. New government-regulated dust exposure limits are increasing the urgency for long-lasting dust control methods that can help construction companies maintain compliance.
Neglecting to control dust on construction worksites can cause hazardous working conditions and serious respiratory problems for workers. Soilworks' leading products Durasoil and Soiltac are extremely durable, convenient to use and trusted by construction companies around the world to control dust and stabilize soil.

The Obama administration recently issued a new rule to limit silica dust exposure as a component to their workplace health and safety initiatives. The Labor Department’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rule will affect millions within the construction, fracking and maritime industries.

The War on Silica Dust

Crystalline silica is classified as a human lung carcinogen, and long-term exposure to silica dust can result in silicosis, a dangerous lung disease that accounts for more than 100 deaths each year in the United States.

Under the new regulation, permissible exposure limits (PEL) are cut to 50 micrograms per cubic meter during an eight-hour work shift, an 80% cut from the original 250 micrograms.

In order to maintain compliance with the new regulation, employers are forced to keep construction dust to a minimum.
