What’s going on at Soilworks
Disaster is developing in Southern California as toxic dust storms are polluting the Imperial and Coachella valleys and causing severe health issues for families who live downwind from the Salton Sea.
Emerging Threats of the Salton Sea
The Salton Sea, once a popular destination for lakeshore and watersport fun, is now a deserted and toxic area that has been neglected for years. A walk along what used to be a haven for boating and fishing reveals a wasteland scene of dead trees and trout skeletons.
Over the years, the lake has withered away as a result of the state’s long history of drought and has become an environmental threat due to its exposed lake bottom containing harmful, pesticide-ridden sediment from years of agricultural runoff. The dry lakebed blows dust into the surrounding residential areas, causing health risks such as silicosis, lung cancer, respiratory diseases, and more.
A permanent solution to the problem at Salton Sea could take years as well as billions of dollars to implement. Invisible Sea, a student-driven organization working to bring awareness to the environmental issues at Salton Sea, is proposing the use of Soiltac, a polymer product created by Soilworks that serves to control dust, erosion and stabilize soil.
With the help of Soiltac, the particulates from the Salton Sea lake bottom that are being spread into neighboring valleys will be contained, leading to an improved air quality and safer environment for families in the surrounding area.
How Soilworks Can Help
When Soiltac is applied to a surface, the copolymer molecules conjoin to form a bond between the soil or aggregate particles. After application, Soiltac starts to create a flexible, solid mass that is durable and water-resistant. Once Soiltac has cured, the copolymer product becomes completely transparent and leaves the landscape seemingly untouched. Soiltac is an extremely durable and low-maintenance dust control option. By adjusting the application rates, Soiltac can remain effective for several years.
In addition, Soiltac is completely eco-safe, biodegradable, water resistant, ultraviolet ray resistant, non-flammable and safe for humans, animals, vegetation and marine life.
Here’s a more detailed look at our Soiltac solution benefits:
