Dust Abatement Program Yuma Helipad Dust Abatement Test (TPD0500002)

Summary

As part of a comprehensive U.S. Marine Corps Systems Command dust abatement initiative, the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center evaluated 7 commercial off-the-shelf dust palliatives, including Soiltac®, a synthetic copolymer emulsion from Soilworks, in laboratory and field tests at Yuma Proving Ground. Soiltac was tested under simulated rotor wash (150 mph with sand) and applied to helipads for CH-46 and CH-53 aircraft. Results confirmed Soiltac’s ability to significantly reduce dust generation, maintain surface integrity, and perform reliably after short cure times. It was recommended for use on 150-ft square helipads in sandy conditions, with application rates between 0.39 and 0.72 gallons per square yard depending on dilution.

For military aviation engineers and logistics units, Soiltac supports:

Proven rotor wash resistance for helicopter landing zones

Field-tested application using hydroseeders or water trucks

GSA procurement availability for rapid deployment under military specifications

To reduce brownout risk and maintain FOD-free surfaces in austere rotary-wing operations, contact Soilworks for helipad-specific Soiltac deployment strategies and military-grade technical support.
