At multiple U.S. and coalition airfields across Afghanistan, Operation Enduring Freedom runway assessments documented widespread surface deterioration—ranging from concrete spalling to severe raveling on asphalt and unpaved landing zones. To mitigate dust hazards, particularly on compacted dirt strips and gravel airfields, Soiltac®, a synthetic copolymer emulsion by Soilworks, was applied for dust control at the Carlson Landing Zone. This application reduced loose particulate matter and supported safe rotary- and fixed-wing aircraft operations. The report also highlighted that Soiltac provided surface stabilization without interfering with ongoing military use, making it suitable for expeditionary and semi-permanent airfield installations.
