Calculating Requirements
•Determine area to be treated (sq. yd.)
•Use undiluted coverage value in gallons per square yard (gsy) and mix ratio (gal of water to gal of material)
•Determine product amount
•Determine gallons of water and amount of product needed by shipping container
  1. 100 * 100 ft. landing zone = 10,000 sq. ft.
  2. 10,000 sq. ft. / 9 (sq. ft. per sq. yd.)  = 1111 yd2
  3. 1111 * 1.2 gsy (application rate) = 1333.2 gallons polymer
  4. 1333.2 gal. * 3 (from 3:1 dilution ratio) = 3999.6 gal. water
  5. 1 Tote = 275 gal. 1333.2 / 275 = 4.84 totes

Tips for Selecting
Dust Palliatives
•Logistics considerations
–Synthetic fluids weigh around 7.4 pounds per gallon
–Polymer emulsions, over 9 pounds per gallon
–Typical container (Tote) 275 lb. container
•Approximately 2,000 lbs. for synthetic fluids
•Approximately 2,500 lbs. for polymer emulsions
•Certain emulsified products have a limited shelf life
•Generally, emulsions must be kept away from extreme heat, ultraviolet light, and freezing temperatures
•Synthetic fluids do not have limitations on shelf life
•Goal is to use equipment that will allow the most efficient progress
–Hydro seeder can spray over 100 gpm
–613C can spray up to 850 gpm
•Factor time for transporting water and filling the equipment
•Add product to container after dilution water has been placed in tank to reduce foaming
•Rinse equipment with water after applying palliatives
•Compacting soil is a requirement for proper topical application
