The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) issued an emergency response to address severe dust storms caused by land clearing near Interstate-10 at milepost 376 in San Simon, Arizona. These fugitive dust emissions created hazardous driving conditions, leading to multiple vehicle accidents and road closures. ADEQ, in collaboration with ADOT and the Arizona Department of Agriculture (ADA), mandated the application of chemical stabilizers to suppress dust and stabilize exposed soil.
Gorilla-Snot®, a biodegradable copolymer emulsion, was applied to create a durable surface crust, preventing wind erosion and reducing airborne particulate matter. ADEQ’s response also included enhanced watering schedules and long-term vegetation cover requirements. This application of Gorilla-Snot® effectively mitigated roadway dust hazards, ensuring improved air quality, regulatory compliance, and safer travel conditions along I-10.
