Summary

Site soil preparation, finish grading, and planting requirements emphasize long-term soil stability, erosion resistance, and performance of engineered soil systems in landscaped and on-structure environments. Specifications address soil conditioning, amendment blending, compaction control, and protection of prepared soils prior to planting, with clear expectations for maintaining soil integrity during construction sequencing. Erosion repair measures are required where soil surfaces are disturbed or degraded, reinforcing the need for stabilization methods that bond soil particles, reduce surface loss, and preserve grade accuracy before landscape installation.

On-structure soil preparation explicitly calls for soil stabilizers and fiber reinforcement to enhance cohesion, minimize displacement, and support planted systems under variable loading and environmental exposure. Polymer-based soil stabilization solutions such as Soiltac and Gorilla-Snot provide effective binding of engineered soils and fibers, improving resistance to erosion, wind displacement, and moisture-driven migration. During soil preparation and finish grading, Durasoil delivers long-lasting dust control and soil conditioning without reliance on continuous water application, supporting cleaner job sites and protecting prepared soils until final planting. For landscape areas, structural soil systems, and erosion-prone grades, Soilworks solutions help maintain specification compliance, reduce rework, and ensure durable soil performance throughout construction and establishment phases. For project-specific recommendations on soil stabilization, erosion control, and dust suppression, consult Soilworks to match the appropriate product to site conditions and performance requirements.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

  1. General: Examine site and verify that conditions are suitable to receive Work and that no defects or errors are present which would cause defective installation of products or cause latent defects in workmanship and function.
  2. Verification of Lightweight Geosynthetic Fill and Roof Drainage Systems: Verify that Lightweight Geosynthetic Fill has been graded to correct elevations and Roof Drainage Systems have been installed per drawings and specifications.
  3. Notification: Before proceeding with Work, notify the Owner’s Designated Representative in writing of unsuitable conditions and conflicts.

3.2 PREPARATION

  1. Protection:
    1. Use every possible precaution to prevent damage to existing conditions to remain such as structures, utilities, lighting, irrigation systems, drainage systems and lightweight
    2. Use every possible precaution to prevent excessive compaction of planting area soil within or adjacent to the areas of Work.
    3. Provide barricades, fences or other barriers to protect existing conditions to remain from damage, contamination and excessive compaction during construction.
    4. Submit written notification of conditions damaged during construction to the Owner’s Designated Representative immediately.

3.3 CONVEYANCE

  1. Roof Conveyance methods shall not cause stratification or separation of planting soil constituent as measured by specified texture.

3.4 PLACEMENT

  1. Location and Depths: As indicated on the
  2. Planting Soil Placement:
    1. Begin with low areas and place soil in lifts not to exceed 12 inches.
    2. Place soil with equipment of appropriate size for area and in a manner that avoids excessive compaction of the topsoil.
    3. Avoid repeatedly driving equipment in same tracks so that topsoil does not become excessively compacted.
    4. Place topsoil to elevations that allow for settlement, consolidation and finish grading tol
    5. Place and install blended soils in such a manner as to maintain the uniformity of the mixes. If stratification or separation occurs, reblend the components prior to planting. Provide sufficient moisture to prevent dustiness but not excessive moisture to call anaerobiosis or water logging.
  • STALOK FIBER
  1. Equipment
    1. Rototiller, reverse tiller is preferred (lncorporator, Rotodairon, Blecavator, or equivalent).
    2. Rootzone Soil
      1. Rootzone medium should be water-settled and fine
      2. Rootzone medium should be consolidated with roller to dry density, between 87-lbs and 100-lbs per cubic foot.

  1. Fiber Installation
    1. Place bags of fibers approximately 15-ft by 15-ft
    2. Spread fibers by hand or with a modified straw blower at a rate of approximately or 1-lb per 12 square feet for sports
    3. Mix fiber into rootzone to specified depth (generally 3 to 4-inches (7-cm) for sports turf using approved rototiller, a reverse tiller is highly recommended. When using Rotodairon or Blecavator, 3 passes in different directions are generally sufficient. Other tillers may require up to 5 passes. Do not exceed 5 passes.
    4. Check rate of fibers per square foot during application by placing 1-square yard sheets of plastic at random locations over the area. After spreading, remove sheets and weigh retained fibers to make sure proper weight is achieved. Continuous monitoring should be done to verify spreading rate matches design rate.
  1. Watering and Consolidation
    1. Thoroughly soak surface after ti Soil should be moistened to minimum depth of 9-inches (23cm) and kept moist.
    2. Consolidate with vibratory roller to dry density between 87 and 100-lbs per cubic

  3. Spray Rate: Set the spray rate high enough to allow even coverage with multiple coats and low enough to prevent material from draining away from the treatment area.

Soiltac®Dilution

    1. Water: Fill the application equipment with the recommended volume of
    2. Dilution Calculation: The amount of water required to achieve optimum moisture must be field determined by comparing thein place moisture content to the optimum moisture content (determined by a laboratory proctor test ASTM D2216-92).The in place moisture content can be determined by the average of four in place readings with a nuclear density gauge. Testing the native soil for optimum moisture levels is required to determine the exact parts of water to usefor diluting Soiltac®properl Not enough water will generate dry spots/ too much water will create mud or “pumping.Optimum moisture is critical when com actin for maximum com ressive strenth.
    3. REDACTED

Application

  1. Apply the Soiltac® Dilution evenly over the sacrified treatment area.
  2. REDACTED
  3. Till, disc or manipulate the treated soil until the dilution is uniformly
  4. Compaction: Compact the site to a minimum of-(per ASTM D 698 D 1557 modified Proctor Density).
